How to Keep The Rear Seats from Flipping Up In A Jeep Wrangler JK

The rear seats of a Jeep Wrangler can be flipped up to create more storage space for groceries, tools, furniture, camping gear, or whatever you need to haul. However, in some cases you want to have the seat folded down but not flipped up. Below I will share some tips to keep the rear seat of your Jeep Wrangler from flipping up.

Many Jeep Wrangler JK owners are familiar with the fact that the rear seat in a Jeep is foldable. You can fold the rear seat forward which allows for more storage space in the rear of the jeep or to shove a larger item such as a kayak through the rear window. When the rear seat is folded forward it also unlatches the rear half of the seat from the floor of the trunk which results in the seat flipping up especially when you hit the brakes too hard or drive down a steep incline. This can be frustrating if you have something on top of the seat such as groceries that are getting tossed up into the back of the driver seat while you are driving. Below I will share some creative ways for a Jeep Wrangler owner to keep the rear seats from flipping up while driving.

How to Keep The Rear Seats In a Jeep From Flipping Up When You Fold Them Forward

There are a number of different ways to prevent the rear seats of a Jeep Wrangler JK from flipping up when folded forward, or keeping it flipped up when you want it to stay flipped up. The first and most widely used method is the use of bungee cords.  You can use a variety of bungee cord sizes to keep the rear seats from flipping up.  Personally I use an 11 inch ball bungee to bungee the mounting loops on the rear seat to anchor points in the rear of the Jeep. When I am not using the rear seat I tend to just remove the seat entirely and just avoid the hassle all together. Removing the seat adds a ton of storage space which is great for hauling gear. So if you are not going to be in need of a rear seat for a while just go ahead and take it out, it is a very quick and easy process.
